Work is...

Work is a vampire sucking the good out of life.

Work is torture, plain and simple, and yet each day, Monday thru Friday and sometimes Saturday, I get up in the morning and willingly submit to it's diabolical, mind-numbing tedium.

Work is a black hole, crushing and compressing all the goodness of life to a pinprick of joy known as The Weekend. Oh, how I love and yearn for the weekend!

I tried to capture how I feel at the end of a typical workday. This picture just about sums it up:

On a brighter note, this weekend is the 4th of July, which means BBQ's and fireworks. That should be enough to get me thru the next 3 days...I hope.

Timber!!!

The Stihl Timbersports Series made it's way to the beautiful state of Utah this past weekend. Being a city-boy my whole life, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to watch a bunch of men hack through lumps of wood with axes, saws and chainsaws and connect with my long-supressed inner-woodsman. Here are some pictures from my phone to document the experience.

The last one is an event called the Speed Climb, where, believe it or not, the object is to climb the poles as fast as possible and then drop back to the base even faster. That was the most impressive event of the day and kudos to the guys who can do it. I must admit that I enjoyed the day. It was something different, and not something I would/could ever do, but I can appreciate it all the same.

Fish Tacos and Volleyball

I enjoyed two of my favorite things tonight: volleyball and fish tacos. Not much to comment on volleyball except that it was a blast and I am very, very glad the weather decided to be nice so we could play in the sand. I guess some things don't change the older we get: I loved playing in the sandbox as a kid and I love playing in the sandbox as an adult.

Now, my thought on fish tacos in general is rather simple and straight forward: don't bread the fish!!! It's already wrapped in a tortilla so we don't need a second layer of breading around the fish. And, if you have to disguise the quality of fish you are using in my tacos, then I would rather not partake thank you very much. My thought on the fish tacos I had tonight is also rather simple: mmm, delicious!

My Second Post Ever...

Phew! I am glad that first post is out of the way. There is a lot of pressure on what to write in your first post ever. Should it be humorous? Sarcastic? Witty? Perhaps a quote from someone famous or a profound observation of society? I couldn't decide. So, in what has sadly become a mantra in my life lately: if you can't decide...don't!

This second post is much easier. The ice was broken in the first post so now I can enjoy the chilling freedom of writing my thoughts where the world can see, read, judge and comment on them. I am not vain enough to think the world really cares much about what goes on in my brain. I'm barely aware of half the stuff spinning around up there as it is. I started this blog simply so I could participate more in my sisters' blogs. I have enjoyed the stories, the triumphs, even the disappointments they have shared in their writing. I have often wanted to comment, offer my support or just let them know they brought a smile to my face.

But, if I am going to create a blog, I may as well use it to share my thoughts, stories, triumphs and disappointments as well. So, here goes. My first official declaration is to say to my family, I love you all!

My First Post Ever...
